MUMBAI: It is not unusual for a top leading actor can easily charge hundreds of crores for a film in today's time. However there was a time in the 90’s when the per film remuneration of megastars were less than a crore. Yet there is one superstar who commanded Rs 1 crore in 1994 and it is not Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth or any other actor of that time.

In the September 1992 edition of Stardust magazine South star Chiranjeevi’s made it to the cover. And the reason was that he was the highest paid Indian actor. He had charged a staggering Rs 1.25 crore for the Telugu film Aapadbandhavudu. Interestingly Amitabh Bachchan charged Rs 85-90 lakh per film during those days.
After a few years, Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan joined the 1 Crore club, then came Rajnikanth. Nagarjuna and Venkatesh too joined the 1 crore league by the late 90’s. Speaking of Hindi films, after A Big B, SRK and Salman too started charging a crore or more for their films.
Chiranjeevi has been part of blockbusters like Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, GodFather, and Waltair Veerayya, charges over Rs 45 Crores per film.
