challenging and woman-centric”

MUMBAI : Karishma Tanna has become the talk of the town from the past few weeks after her show Scoop premiered on Netflix. The actress has impressed one and all with her performance in the series.

TellyChakkar interacted with Karishma and spoke to her if it was difficult to play the character, her upcoming projects and more...

The series is based on a real-life incident, so was there a hesitation before taking up the role that what if it gets into any controversy?

I don’t think so I thought so far if you ask me. Everybody knows about this topic. The world knows about it, so there was nothing new. Of course, we fictionalized and dramatized the show. So, this thought never came. The thought was that this is inspired by a real story and how we can perform and make it watchable and lovable.

In the series, you are seen as this strong-headed journalist and then when you go to jail your character becomes vulnerable. So, was that transition from strong-headed to vulnerable difficult?

I don’t think it was difficult, but I had to think a lot about how I look vulnerable and how to grip the audience with the emotions that Jagruti Pathak is going through. There are so many layers to this character like when I am in a newsroom I want to be on page 1 always, when I am with my kid and family I am trying to juggle between personal and professional life, and when I am in jail how I make people relate to me and my emotions. It’s very difficult to show a strong woman vulnerable at the same time, so that was a conscious effort to have those scenes which are impactful. So, I would not say it was difficult but it was emotionally draining.

The audience would have high expectations from you after Scoop. So, tell us something about your upcoming projects.

I don’t take too much load in life because I know something good will come my way and with this (Scoop) I have at least opened doors for those kinds of roles to come my way. So, yes, I would love to pick up something which is challenging and woman-centric. But, right now, I am just enjoying and basking in the glory. I was consciously making an effort that I should not pick up anything. I wanted the show to be released, see people’s reaction, and then take up something else. I am in no hurry.
