MUMBAI: Shweta Tripathi is known for her performance in many films and OTT series like Masaan, Haraamkhor, Gone Kesh, Mirzapur, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein and others. The actress was recently seen in the series Kaalkoot, which premiered on Jio Cinema a few days ago.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Shweta and spoke to her about the response Kaalkoot has received, how difficult it was for her to play an acid attack survivor, and more...
What response are you getting for Kaalkoot?
When I do a project, I see what my emotional response is while I am reading the material, and what is the story that we are telling. So, that’s my priority and I do a project because of that. When the project comes out, and you get the love which you never imagined, it’s a very good feeling. You feel that you are doing something right in your life when you are getting this kind of love and respect.

You play an acid attack survivor in the series. So, how difficult was it to play the character?
As actors, we feel a percentage of what the character must have gone through, but without paying the price. I know, at the end of the day, this is prosthetics; once I am done with the shoot, someone will help me remove it. So, you know that this is temporary, but for people who are actually acid attack survivors, for them it’s not, it’s permanent for them. When an incident like this happens with someone, it’s not just the individual who goes through it; that’s what Parul’s character realises, how emotionally breaking it is for parents as well. Acid attack is a crime of entitlement, where you feel that this person deserves it.
How was your experience of working with Vijay Varma?
He is amazing because he is such a dedicated and simple actor. He doesn’t just make his performance better but even yours. The way he approaches a scene and a character, there’s a lot to learn. When you are working with people who work with so much dedication, it teaches you many things. People like Vijay Varma so much. I have seen him live, and he has been my co-actor, that is such a joy. So, I loved working with him and would love to do it again.
