MUMBAI: SonyLIV's web series Scam is no doubt one of the most loved OTT shows. Earlier, we watched Scam 1992, which was based on the Harshad Mehta Scam, happened in the year 1992. Currently, the new series Scam 2003 is getting love from the fans and audience.
The new series Scam 2003 is based on the Abdul Karim Telgi Scam, which deals with selling of fake stamp papers.
The show is getting lots of love from the fans and audience and also a big thumbs up from them. Having said that, today, let us have a look at the real life story of Abdul Karim Telgi and the timeline of the events occurred in the stamp paper Scam.
Talking about his early life, Telgi's mother was Shariefabee Ladsaab Telgi, and his father was an employee of Indian Railways. His father died while he was young. He completed his education by selling fruits and vegetables on trains. This was the year 1982. It was the same period when Abdul Karim jumped into the travel business. Telgi used to make fake documents for people and send them to Arab and different countries. Abdul Karim Telgi was arrested for such fraud and was sent to jail for certain period of time.
Later, it was the year 1990s when he was into the fake stamp paper selling. Abdul Karim Telgi used to deal with fake stamp paper and used to sell these to big firms and businessmen. Reportedly, the fraud was upto 30000 crore, and was indeed one of the biggest scam of the time.
It was the year 2001 when Abdul Karim was arrested in the fraud of stamp paper. He was charged with multiple crimes, including fraud and forgery.
Telgi was suffering from meningitis and died on 23 October 2017 at Victoria Hospital, Bengaluru. He was suffering from diabetes and hypertension for over 20 years, besides other ailments.
