MUMBAI: After working together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s HUm dil De Chuke Sanam, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai were the quintessential on-screen couple that everyone wanted to cash in on. Their sizzling chemistry took the film world by storm. Amidst that, the duo even started dating in real life but as everyone knows the love story had a tragic end to it and the two never worked together in a full fledged film together again.

There was a time however, when SLB wanted to cast Salman and Aishwarya in his period drama Bajirao Mastani. Without taking any names, Aishwarya once made it clear that she didn’t do the film as she did not want to be cast opposite Salman Khan as Bajirao. In an old interview Aishwarya was quoted as saying that she was happy to play Mastani but not with the “Bajirao he (Sanjay) had in mind” She further said, “The media made it out to be that Aishwarya walked out of Bajirao Mastani. We hadn’t communicated then because I was in the hospital with my leg laid up.”
Reportedly, Salman took Katrina Kaif to Bhansali’s office saying that she would play Mastani, but the filmmaker wasn’t convinced and ultimately the roles of Bajirao and Mastani went to Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone respectively.
