MUMBAI: Veteran Malayalam filmmaker KG George who was a well known name in the industry sadly passed away. He had suffered a stroke many years ago and since then his health had been unstable. His condition deteriorated and he breathed his last on 24th September. Many celebs and politicians paid their last respects and tributes to the veteran filmmaker.

Actor Mammootty who worked with the late actor in many film including the 1980 film Mela, consoled George’s death on the social media platform X and wrote, “One more person, who was close to the heart, says goodbye, Condolences George Sir.”
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote, “KG George was a filmmaker who won a place in the hearts of the audience by dealing with socially responsible issues. His unique method was to analyze the structure of society and the structure of individual minds.” He further wrote, “KG George made interventions that blurred the distinction between artistic cinema and commercial cinema. That in turn raised the quality and enjoyment level of the movie remarkably. He is the director of many memorable movies.”
Swaroop Kaimal shared a picture of the late filmmaker and wrote, “Rest in peace sir! One of the finest filmmakers of the country bids adieu.”
George’s 1984 directorial Panchavadi Palam, was considered to be one of the finest political satire films in Malayalam cinema.

KG George was honoured with the Kerala State Film Awards for his films Yavanika, Swapnadanam, Adaminte Vaariyellu and Iraka.
The filmmaker is survived by his wife Selma George, and children; son Arun and daughter Thara.
