MUMBAI: In an exclusive interview with Film Companion, the creative mind behind the Singham series and Simmba, Rohit Shetty, addressed the ongoing criticism of his films glorifying police aggression. Defending his stance, Shetty argued that the films depict a stark reality faced by law enforcement officers dealing with heinous crimes.

Acknowledging the criticism, Shetty emphasized that the cinematic portrayal is a reflection of the harsh and challenging life faced by the police force. He drew attention to the need for a distinct mindset when dealing with criminals who have committed grievous offences, asserting that the films are a portrayal of a life vastly different from the ordinary.

Rohit Shetty, known for his Cop Universe films, expressed his understanding of the psychological toll on police officers, citing instances where officers needed counselling after traumatic experiences, such as the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. While he asserted his opposition to killing innocent people and taking the law into one's hands, Shetty underscored the necessity of instilling fear in society, even if it invites criticism.

Sharing anecdotes of real-life situations where the police had to protect themselves, Shetty shed light on the challenges faced by law enforcement. He emphasized that when faced with threats, the police force must retaliate to ensure their safety and the safety of innocent citizens.

The director's upcoming project, the Indian Police Force series, starring Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi, aims to humanize the perception of cops. Shilpa Shetty praised Shetty for portraying the human side of law enforcement, dispelling stereotypes, and reviving faith and respect for the police force.

As Rohit Shetty boldly defends his Cop Universe against criticism, the Indian Police Force series is set to be released on Prime Video on January 19, promising a nuanced portrayal of the challenges faced by law enforcement officers.
