MUMBAI: The star of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Gurucharan Singh, also known as Sodhi, has been absent for more than two weeks. Although the actor continues to be searched, police sources recently revealed to a well-known news portal that Gurucharan may have faked his disappearance.
As everyone awaits more details, Hargit Singh, the actor's father, recalled the day he spent with Gurucharan before his son vanished. He revealed that the actor celebrated Hargit's birthday while in New Delhi. By posting a selfie with his father on Instagram, Gurucharan had sent him a wish.
Hargit Singh mentioned they spent the day at home in an interview with the popular news portal. He added that Gurucharan was supposed to travel to Mumbai via plane the next day. Additionally, the source disclosed that Bhakti Soni, the actor's friend, was supposed to welcome him at the Mumbai airport. “There were no celebrations as such, but we were at home together, and it felt nice. The next day, he was supposed to travel to Mumbai,” he said.
“What has happened is very shocking, we don’t know how to deal with it. Hum sab bahut pareshaan hain (We are very troubled) and are eagerly waiting for some update from the police. Hum uske wapas aane ka intezaar kar rahe hain (We are awaiting his return),” he added.
Meanwhile, police source told News18 last week that Gurucharan left his phone in Palam area before he went missing. “He left his phone in the Palam area. We are trying to find but it only makes it more difficult for us to trace Gurucharan Singh, because this means that the phone is not with the actor. In the CCTV footage we recovered that he was seen moving from one e-rickshaw to another. Looks like, he had planned everything and has moved out of Delhi,” the sources said.
Gurucharan Singh was last seen on April 22. Four days later, his father filed him missing, stating, “My son Gurucharan Singh, Age: 50 years, had left at 8:30 am on 22nd April to go to Mumbai. He went to the airport to catch a flight. He didn’t reach Mumbai, neither has he returned home and his phone is not reachable. He is mentally stable and we had been searching for him but now he has been missing.”
Several of Gurucharan's co-stars from TMKOC, such as Mandar Chandwadkar, Jennifer Mistry, and Samay Shah, showed concern about his disappearance and expressed the hope that he will soon return home. Asit Kumarr Modi, the show's producer, recently shared his reaction to the news, calling it "shocking" and "painful."
