MUMBAI: Ace Indian cricketer Virat Kohli's security is under serious threat. Anushka Sharma's husband, who is also a player in the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has heightened security after apparent reports from the Gujarat Police stating that individuals possibly linked to terrorist organizations are planning to harm him. Gujarat Police informed the RCB team about the threat, prompting the immediate cancellation of today's practice session scheduled with the Rajasthan Royals and the press conference.
According to reports in the Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, four men were arrested at Ahmedabad airport on the night of May 20, 2024, on suspicion of terrorist activities. Police have apparently recovered arms, suspicious videos, and text messages after searching the hideout of the four accused. Virat Kohli learned about the arrests after arriving in Ahmedabad.
Police officer Vijay Singh Jwala stated that as soon as they informed the RCB management about Virat's security threat, they immediately canceled all practice sessions, including the one supposed to happen at Gujarat College ground in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to prepare for the knockout match, and even the press conference scheduled for this evening before the eliminator match against the Rajasthan Royals. The police official added that they also informed the Rajasthan Royals team about the terrorist threat, but they chose to proceed with their practice session. Even the security around the hotel where the RCB team is currently staying has been tightened.
As of now, there is no news circulating about the cancellation of today's eliminator match between RCB and Rajasthan Royals. Police officials are currently investigating further into the matter, and another official statement will soon be released regarding the entire case.
