MUMBAI : Indian television has been entertaining the viewers for decades now. The past several years has seen a lot of changes in the TV content.
While earlier, the makers used to focus on saas-bahu drama, now, times have changed and the viewers are treated with a variety of content on different channels.

Amid the rising demand of unique storylines and concepts, saas-bahu sagas continue to show their prominence.
A specific set of audience only prefers to watch the dramatic shows which have lots of fights, drama, shocking twists, kitchen politics and more.
Well, there are several hit formulas to make a TV show raise its TRPs. While we are still moving towards progressive content, there are certain concepts which will seem like they will be etched forever in the books of ITV. These morals can never be tampered with how much ever progressive our society gets as they are deeply rooted and define how an ‘ideal Indian woman’ should be.

Firstly sex before marriage is a taboo.
The world and the nation have been moving to the concepts of live-in relationships, there are many boyfriends-girlfriends indulging in physical relationships and we see many of them cuddling near the beaches too. But this is not at all permissible and does not suit our core traditional Indian value system.
Forced marriages are acceptable and you’ll fall in love with each other eventually.
There are so many love marriages happening in and around the world but somewhere down the line, drama is necessary and someone has to object to the relationship on ITV. Why can’t they keep it simple?
Only a year after the couple's marriage, they consummate, and before then, there are only tense moments between the main couple because, supposedly, early consummation ruins the suspense throughout the narrative. This is a must!
A Woman doesn't drink, smoke or party but if she does then it means she has no morals.
And lastly, you should always respect and listen to your elders, even if it costs your self-respect or are wrong about a particular matter. If younger people dare to correct them, it is a shame.
Now while there are many shows which follow this set of taboos, there are also shows like Jhanak, Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, Anupamaa, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and others which are gradually drifting in a positive direction by showcasing the female leads calling spade a spade and are standing up for themselves and those around them.
