MUMBAI: ‘Sharma ji’ is very famous in the nation for all the high expectations and comparisons but what happens to Sharma Ji’s kids?
Well, Tahira Kashyap is here, making her directorial debut, making a world with some much-required characters. Tahira Kashyap’s debut movie ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’ has the perfect vision of women equality, explained through role-reversal and that too in a mature way, showing the other side of the landscape to convey how equally important it is to focus there.
Yes we have seen working men having a greater presence in the house, we have also seen the same working men being absent to their own family. We have seen women looked down on for choosing to be a homemaker but we have also seen the same homemakers understanding the world better than some of the woman who look down on them. We have seen teenage boys struggling with what the age brings but we also need to look at the struggle of teenage girls struggling through the major changes.
Well, writer and director Tahira Kashyap has done a phenomenal job, bringing to us a world that’s so realistic and at the same time, a vision that is much-needed for an adaptation in real life. As you start, the first 20-25 mins are going to be a little uncomfortable and you might feel irritated but give it some time and you will finally understand the intention.
While Divya Dutta steals the show, Saiyami Kher could have done better. While Divya Dutta’s story stood out the most, Saiyami Kher’s story could’ve got more energy to it. On the other hand, Arista Mehta and Vanshika Taparia as teenage girls play their part perfectly and really give major insights.
While the show tries to show the other side of the pictures, certain scenes of acceptance were beautifully written and shot. Not to forget, the chemistry between Sakshi Tanwar and Sharib Hashmi is unforgettable and also a learning lesson. Meanwhile, Parvin Dabas and Ravjeet Singh also play pivotal parts in the movie.
Considering this being a debut project, Tahira Kashyap has done a great job. While the screenplay almost got you engaged, the actors left no chance to indulge you in. Surely the narrative takes its time and opens up too slow.
In conclusion, the movie works due to the performances of the actors and the story but the storytelling along with the screenplay needs improvement along with the duration of the movie that could have been shorter. By the end, the movie will surely leave you with some important insights into the small moments of life.
