MUMBAI: On the first night of Bigg Boss OTT season 3, YouTuber Armaan Malik and his two wives, Payal and Kritika, shocked the internet by talking about their dynamics and polygamous marriage. Following their involvement, internet users and celebrities expressed disapproval of their connection in the days that followed.
Sana Raees Khan, a lawyer and Bigg Boss season 17 contestant who has worked with numerous superstars in the Hindi entertainment business, has now declared that Malik's second marriage is illegal.
Speaking about the trio's polygamous relationship, Khan said that a Hindu male in India is only permitted to have one wife at a time under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1995. She further said that Hindus are not allowed to practice polygamy and that his second marriage to Kritika will not be recognized by Indian law because it is against the law. She continued by explaining that depicting a Hindu husband with two wives on a popular reality program, such as Bigg Boss OTT season 3, may cause misunderstandings regarding the legitimacy of polygamy in Hindu law.
Sana further revealed, “This might lead to misunderstandings among viewers about the norms governing marriages in Hinduism. It could perpetuate stereotypes or misconceptions about Hindu practices and beliefs regarding marriage. And could potentially normalize or glamorize relationships that are not legally or socially accepted in the context of modern Hindu society.”
Sandip Jangda is Armaan's real name, for those who are unaware. Although there had been speculation that he was a Muslim, Payal refuted the allegations and disclosed that he was a Jatt community member.
Malik faced criticism after his two wives, Payal and Kritika, discussed their personal lives on the Bigg Boss OTT 3 premiere night. Only seven days after divorcing his first wife Suchitra, he fell in love with Payal and married her in 2011. They welcomed their son Chirayu Malik together, having been married when they were young. In 2018, after six blissful years of marriage, he wed Payal's closest friend, Kritika. Zaid, Kritika and Armaan's first child, was just welcomed, while Payal has twins Ayan and Tuba with Armaan.
