MUMBAI : Filmmaker Farah Khan revealed that the only other actor who practiced for three days for her special appearance in the renowned Om Shanti Om song ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ was veteran actor Rekha. The song from the 2007 movie, composed by Vishal-Shekhar and lyricist Javed Akhtar, included cameos by thirty-one actors in the Hindi film industry.
Speaking on the IFTDA Official YouTube channel, Farah recalled how she gathered an array of stars for a single song in the Shah Rukh Khan film. Rekha is one of the few seasoned actors to feature in the song, revealed that she was the only one who showed up for three days of rehearsals, which puzzled Farah a lot more. She disclosed that the 69-year-old showed a genuine attitude during the song's filming, exhibiting punctuality, dressing in her own saree, and applying her own makeup.
“Rekha ji was the only one, who rehearsed. For three days she came fore rehearsals, even we were wondering why. We were like ‘what do we rehearse with her?!’ But she said, ‘No I have to come and do it.’ Sweetly she came, did rehearsal, wore her own saree, did her own make up and said, ‘Sharp 3 pm I will come out.’ Some people would come late as well,” she quipped.
Stars include Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Dharmendra, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol, Kajol, Tabu, Rani Mukerji, and Lara Dutta were among those who appeared in the song.
Farah Khan most recently directed the 2014 comedy Happy New Year, which starred Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone as the lead characters in her Om Shanti Om film. She has approached Shah Rukh about directing a new action-comedy movie that is slated to be shot in the same setting as her first feature, Main Hoon Na.
