With the release of Footpath in 2003, Emraan made his Bollywood debut. He has acted in hit movies such as The Dirty Picture, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, and Murder. In an interview, he acknowledged that despite his success, he gets jealous of other actors a lot. According to Emraan, he frequently thought that someone else performed better than him or that he ought to have played a better part.

Emraan said, “Envy engulfs me all the time. I'm envious of a lot of people and that's a part and parcel of any industry. There's always a perception of you and let's face it, there's always someone who you feel is better than you. And this feeling has got to do a lot with your temperament and the kind of person you're.”

Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, Emraan Hashmi's uncles, produced the actor's first motion picture. Purnima Das Verma, his grandmother, was a well-known actress in the 1940s and 1950s at the same period. Still, Emraan was taken aback by the politics of the sector. He clarified that political inclinations and public relations play a major role.

Emraan added, “I was too young to understand that. I came in when I was 19 years old. I was innocent and immature because I had just come out of college. I realised that it's got to do a lot with PR and people who're political in their stance. Success is made up of a lot of complicated little things. It's not as simple as 'you're a good actor and so you'll get success.' There are a lot of dimensions to it that need to play out.”
