MUMBAI: The Indian television industry has long struggled with issues like long hours, excessive overtime, and unfavorable working conditions. Many actors are forced to leave the profession because of the industry's unwavering focus on content development, which impedes progress in these areas.

Nia recently spoke out about the difficulties of moving to different platforms and the difficulties of finding substantial, well-funded projects at this point in her career, and referred to the transition as “extremely challenging.” Nia made a comeback on the small screen with the supernatural thriller Suhagan Chudail.

In an interview with the well-known news site, Nia Sharma mentioned that although she got offers, they often lacked substance or never materialized. The actor acknowledged that it was quite challenging to break free from her well-established persona and adapt to a new medium.

Although recognized and appreciated by industry professionals, these connections didn’t translate into concrete projects. This period of exploration spanned three years, during which television offers also came her way but failed to resonate. She also expressed her belief that the overall quality of television content has declined in recent years, contributing to the industry’s current state.

Nia has made a return to television with her role as the alluring yet sinister witch, Nishigandha, in Colors TV’s supernatural drama Suhagan Chudail. The actor, known for her bold choices, is also currently entertaining audiences as a panelist on the reality comedy show, Laughter Chefs.

Nia explained the challenges she faces in securing suitable projects. She revealed that many potential opportunities fall through due to budget constraints or mismatched expectations, stating that there’s a “misconception” that she’s “expensive”, which often discourages people from approaching her.

However, the actor also emphasised the difficulty of finding projects that align with her interests and professional standards. She explained that negotiating “terms and conditions” at this stage of her career is no “easy feat”.

The Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi alum realized the risks of stepping back from the spotlight after becoming well-known on television. She admitted that people in her immediate vicinity were sceptical about her decision.

She admits that opinions from others "would get to her" often. She highlights that she was able to "sit back" and "handle the pressure," but she also rerecognizes that she was "refusing work for a reason" since she has never been concerned about "fading away."

The 33-year-old previously told the news agency that she made a conscious decision not to take part in TV shows since she believed that the genre had significantly lost viewership over the previous several years.  “Every show was shutting (down) in three to four months. The kind of shows I’ve done, they had longevity, they were running for years and years. I always believed that a project shouldn’t be like, ‘It came and it went off air and no one was aware about it,” she added.
