MUMBAI : Actor Rajeev Khandelwal is well-known for his roles in films and television. He acted in several other daily soap operas following his big break in the television show Kahiin To Hoga, before becoming well-known in Bollywood. Over the years, Rajeev has received a great deal of recognition and gratitude for his efforts. However, as he progressed in the entertainment world as an actor, he encountered several difficulties. Rajeev disclosed details on one such instance in a recent interview.
In a recent interview, Rajeev Khandelwal discussed an incident involving Sanjay Leela Bhansali with Siddharth Kannan. Rajeev disclosed that he had a contract with him for the movie Chenab Gandhi. Vibhu Puri was slated to helm the movie, which was slated to star Vidya Balan and Amitabh Bachchan. However, the movie was canceled, and Rajeev was not given a good explanation.
He was cited as saying, "He signed me for a film, called Chenab Gandhi, and kept me around for nine months, almost a year. But the film never took off."
Rajeev further revealed that due to the contract he signed with Sanjay Leela Bhansali he was bound not to work with anyone else. Hence, he couldn't work on other projects for a year. As a result, his time was wasted due to the incident.
He said, "Because I was bound by contract, I couldn't do anything else either. As soon as this chapter ended, I did Sach Ka Saamna."
In the same interview, Rajeev said he didn't know why the film was canceled. Vibhu Puri, who was supposed to direct the film, shared the news with him and asked him to move on with other work. The Salaam Venky actor shared that he reached out to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for more details but didn't get any response. However, he believes that Bhansali had some reason for scrapping the film and didn't do it intentionally.
Rajeev said, "It's not like he said that he would keep me around for a year and ruin my career. I'm sure he didn't have a vested interest, it wasn't deliberate. It could've been funding or any other reason, but he didn't have an answer."
When an actor's career gets ruined like this for a whole year, it's tough. Rajeev stated he was unaffected. After releasing his first movie, Aamir, he declared that he wanted to work on meaningful projects. He had a plan to let things go if they didn't work out. However, the one thing that bothered him was the way he was kept in the dark about that particular incident. The actor is unfazed by it and has no complaints.
