Kunal had appealed for Divorce from court citing that his wife’s treatment toward him was devoid of respect and empathy. Kunal filed an appeal in Delhi high court challenging a family court that was denying him divorce, stating he was making reckless, slanderous, humiliating, and baseless charges against a spouse in public constitutes cruelty. Delhi High Court has finally granted Kunal Divorce from his former wife.

The Supreme Court however, had halted the couple’s divorce after his estranged wife appealed to the top court.

Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatt heard the case, and they announced that the Supreme Court Mediation Center has been tasked with mediating a potential settlement.

In the meantime, Kunal had accused his spouse of being disrespectful and dehumanizing. Ekta "continually failed to respect his parents and subjected him to public embarrassment," according to him.

Ekta, however, refuted the accusations and said she was faithful to Kunal and that she always attempted to speak with him like a loving spouse. She also accused Kunal of fabricating accusations in order to deceive the court. She added that in order to help Kapur and his family, she had to give up her profession.
