Salman Khan house firing case: Accused Vicky Kumar Gupta seeks bail and claims that motive wasn't to harm behind firing

Gupta admitted that he and the other accused, Sagar Kumar Pal, carried out the plot. He stated that he lost his work as a labourer in Tamil Nadu due to the coronavirus outbreak, and that's when he got in touch with Pal, who was from his native place. MUMBAI: The accused Vicky Kumar Gupta has filed a bail plea in the special MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) court, marking a significant development in the Salman Khan house firing case. According to the popular news portal, Gupta stated in his appeal that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang had just threatened the Bollywood star rather than really hurting him.

Gupta admitted that he and the other accused, Sagar Kumar Pal, carried out the plot. He stated that he lost his work as a labourer in Tamil Nadu due to the coronavirus outbreak, and that's when he got in touch with Pal, who was from his native place. Pal sent Gupta to work as a driver in Jalandhar, Punjab. Gupta was then requested to travel to Mumbai for a "auspicious religious mission."

After reaching Mumbai, Gupta was called by Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol Bishnoi who told him about the plan. Gupta further claimed that he agreed to fire gunshots because Anmol gave him “confidence that nothing will happen to him (to Gupta)”. He was further told that his role was limited to riding the bike and ferrying Pal to Bandra. “It was Pal who fired the rounds at Khan’s house,” he said.

In his bail plea, Gupta also informed the court that he is the only earning member in his family and therefore, it is important for him to go out of jail.

The court has now asked the Mumbai police crime branch to reply to Gupta’s bail plea. The next hearing will take place on August 13.

Gunshots were fired outside Khan's Galaxy Apartment in the Bandra area of Mumbai in April of this year. Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of the gangster, posted on Facebook, claiming credit for the shooting event, leading to reports later that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang is suspected of being behind the attack.

When giving his testimony to the Mumbai Crime Branch's anti-extortion cell last month, it was also stated that Salman Khan discussed the various threats he and his family members have received over the years from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

"I heard a cracker-like sound. Then, at around 4.55 am, the police bodyguard said that two people on a bike had fired from a weapon at the Galaxy Apartment’s first-floor balcony. There had been attempts to hurt me and my family prior to this as well. I have learnt that Lawrence Bishnoi has taken responsibility for the attack from social media. So, I believe that it is the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who have carried out the firing on my balcony,” he said.

Following the startling event, Salman Khan's security was increased.
