Gurucharan Singh candidly talks about his financial struggles and debt of Rs 1.2 Crore; 'I have left food'

MUMBAI: Gurucharan Singh gained notoriety for his role as 'Roshan Singh Sodhi' in the hit Indian sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, who left the show a few years ago and disappeared from the public eye. When the police looked into his disappearance, he came forward and said he was on a religious tour. More recently, the actor revealed in an interview that he owes a lot of money and has been looking for work.

During his conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Gurucharan Singh talked extensively about the difficulties he is dealing with. The actor disclosed that he is experiencing serious financial difficulties. Because of the dire circumstances, he was forced to take out numerous loans, which added up to a significant amount.

Gurucharan Singh said he owes Rs.60 lakhs to banks and credit card companies. Moreover, he owes a similar amount to individuals who lent him money. As a result, he is under a massive debt of total Rs. 1.2 crores.

He said, "I have significant debt. I owe Rs 60 lakh to banks and credit card companies. Additionally, some kind people I know have lent me money, and I owe them an equal amount. In total, my debt amounts to nearly Rs 1.2 crore."

He stated, "I have been in Mumbai for a month looking for work. I think people love me, and they want to see me. I also want to earn money to manage my expenses, care for my mother and pay off my debts. I want to get some good work and start my second innings. I need money because I have EMI and credit card payments."

For his more than ten-year stint in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Gurucharan Singh became a household name in Indian households. However, the actor left the program during the pandemic. He claimed that ever since he has struggled. Gurucharan disclosed that he attempted his hand at business but failed miserably. He gave up eating as a result, and he has been getting by on a liquid diet.

He said, "I have left food for the past 34 days. I have been on a liquid diet like I have milk, chai and coconut water. I have seen only failure for the last four years. I have tried to do different things, businesses and all but everything is failing. Now, I am tired and now I should get some earnings."

Back in April, Gurucharan Singh's 26-day disappearance grabbed headlines. The actor was supposed to take a flight on April 22, 2024, from Delhi to Mumbai. Still, his family was unable to get in touch with him and he did not board it. Not long after, a police complaint was filed. On May 18, 2024, he abruptly returned and claimed to be on a spiritual retreat.
