7 Years of Arjun Reddy – Throwback to the time Shahid Kapoor praised Vijay Deverakonda saying “Naa Arjun Reddy bani hoti, naa Kabir Singh paida hota”!

Arjun Reddy

MUMBAI: As ‘Arjun Reddy’ turns seven, we revisit a significant moment when actor Shahid Kapoor, who later portrayed the lead role in the film’s Hindi remake ‘Kabir Singh’, expressed his gratitude to the original "Arjun Reddy," Vijay Deverakonda. Shahid acknowledged the importance of Vijay’s role, saying, “I have to give him a lot of love. Naa Arjun Reddy bani hoti, naa Kabir Singh paida hota (If Arjun Reddy was not made then Kabir Singh would not be born). Thank you, Vijay!” The heartfelt remark not only reflected Shahid’s respect for Vijay’s performance but also underlined the influence of ‘Arjun Reddy’ in paving the way for its Hindi remake.

Interestingly, while Shahid brought a Vijay Deverakonda film to Hindi audiences, Vijay’s upcoming film ‘VD12’ seems to subtly mirror Shahid Kapoor’s intense look in ‘Haider’, drawing a fascinating parallel between these two powerhouse actors who’ve given life to such compelling characters.

Vijay Deverakonda’s portrayal of Arjun Reddy remains one of his most flawed yet most loved characters. As the high-functioning alcoholic surgeon with anger management issues, Arjun Reddy’s self-destructive journey after losing his girlfriend struck a chord with audiences, making heartthrob Vijay Deverakonda an even bigger sensation. The narrative of his downfall and eventual resurgence became iconic, with Vijay’s raw performance at the centre of it.

Vijay Deverakonda’s performance in Arjun Reddy was nothing short of a game-changer, setting a new benchmark for raw, intense storytelling in Indian cinema. His portrayal of the deeply flawed, vulnerable, and volatile Arjun Reddy was both daring and magnetic.
