MUMBAI: Popular YouTuber and "Bigg Boss OTT 2" winner Elvish Yadav is currently embroiled in a court case involving serious criminal charges. Yadav has reportedly been ordered to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in their Lucknow headquarters about a money laundering case.
The unusual and alarming allegations against Yadav, which include the use of snake venom as a recreational drug, financial transactions related to this activity, and hosting parties where such chemicals were allegedly used, have drawn a lot of attention to this case.
Following an investigation into his conduct, Yadav was taken into custody by the Noida Police in March 2024. He was charged with hosting gatherings at which people allegedly used snake venom for amusement.
The Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), the Wildlife Protection Act, and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) were all involved in this investigation, which included an extensive search. The fact that he is accused of both drug use and trafficking in protected animals heightens the seriousness of the situation.
The ED called Yadav in July 2024, but he requested a deferral, citing scheduled foreign travel and professional responsibilities. However, after his return, the ED has renewed its summons, demanding that he appear in their Lucknow office for questioning. This fresh summons demonstrates the ED's sincerity in pursuing this investigation, emphasising the need to establish the sources of funding and financial trails that may link Yadav to these criminal actions.
Other individuals connected to Yadav are also involved in the case; one such individual is the singer Rahul Yadav, better known as Rahul Fazilpuriya, who has been questioned by the ED. Numerous people involved and a wide range of claims, from drug offenses to wildlife trafficking and money laundering, indicate a complex web of activities that the authorities are keen to look into.
Elvish Yadav's legal troubles started after a Noida Sector 49 police station complaint was lodged by a representative of the animal conservation NGO People for Animals (PFA). Numerous investigations into the complaint's origins have shown a range of actions involving Yadav and other parties. The severity of the accusations against Yadav is increased by the fact that he was arrested along with five other snake charmers in November 2023 after nine snakes, including five cobras, and 20 milliliters of suspected snake venom were found. These people were first detained by a local court and were later released on bond; this suggests that judicial proceedings are still pending.
