MUMBAI: During a recent Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 show, Amitabh Bachchan burst into laughter when a contestant about spending time with Jaya Bachchan. The couple has been married for more than 40 years after exchanging vows in June 1973. Contestant Sumitra Dinesh questioned Big B about if Jaya Bachchan had also raised a complaint about him not spending enough time with her due to his constant KBC shooting.
Amitabh Bachchan responded with a laugh saying, “Oho kya bataye? Yeh joh parivarik prashn puch lete hai na log yaha aake..usmei humko bada kasht hota hai (What should I say? It gets difficult for me to answer a question, related to my family).”
The Bollywood actor then recalled about his days of simultaneously filming three projects. Big B was consequently unable to spend quality time with his family. “Kayi saal beet gaye aur hum aagaye film udyog mei. Edhar kaam karna shuru kardia. Hamara kaam joh tha woh teen teen shift mei hota tha. Subah 7 baje se leke dupahar 2 baje tak ek film ek shift. 2 baje dupahar se leke 10 baje tak raat ko dusri alag film, dusra shift. (Many years passed by and I entered the filmy world. I started working and it used to be in 3 different shifts. One used to be from 7 Am to 2 pm, where I used to do one film, in one shift. For the second shift, it used to be from 2 pm to 10 pm where I used to shoot for the second film.)”
The Kalki 2898 AD actor then revealed that he also used to shoot from 10 at night to 6 in morning for another movie. Amitabh recalled that noticing all this even his father (late Harivansh Rai Bachchan) told him once, “Bole beta tum kaam bahut karte hoh. Hum bole bauji paisa badi mushkil se milta hai (My father told me that I work a lot and I said dad getting money is very difficult.)”
Amitabh Bachchan then disclosed that his wife Jaya was incredibly supportive and remained silent, even though he was unable to spend time at home at the time.
Except for the third season, which was hosted by celebrity Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan has hosted KBC since the show's launch in 2000. The show's 16th season debuted on Sony TV earlier this month. Big B broke down in tears during the first episode of the season and sent a heartfelt message to everyone who has followed and helped him along the way in KBC.
“Today marks the start of a new season. But I’m a little short of words today. And that’s because no word has the capacity to convey the gratitude for your love,” he said in Hindi and then added, “I can’t come up with the words to thank you for your prayers which gave a new life to Kaun Banega Crorepati, which illuminated this stage again, and which reunited a family and allowed me to be present among you. I salute this country’s people for the resurrection, rebuilding, and rebirth of KBC.”
