It's always about looking good while also balancing talent: Megha Sharma

MUMBAI: Baal Krishna and Mahakali—Anth Hi Aarambh Hai actor Megha Sharma believes that having good looks along with talent is very important if one wants to make a name for themselves in the industry. She mentioned that the industry has two types of actors, one who are getting work because of their looks, and the other purely based on their talent.

“Good looks are considered one of the main criteria in the entertainment industry. I think, in some way or another, it’s about how we maintain our looks to appear good on screen. It's always about looking good, actually, while also balancing talent. There are many actors who are successful because of their talent, and there are others who rely mostly on their looks,” she said.

However, she stressed that some actors do work on their looks after they get a project. “For some people, this happens—they might not look their best initially, but they still get the project and then improve their appearance. They groom themselves and come out looking great. This has happened to many people. Sometimes, looks work in their favor before they get into the industry, and sometimes after. So, it's a matter of luck, whether it happens before or after joining the industry,” she said.

Megha also spoke about the increase in the number of platforms, which has led to major competition in the industry. She said, “Everyone is trying to become an actor or influencer, and many people want to pursue acting. So, with more people in the field, the competition has become tougher. The higher the number of people, the higher the competition.”

What about favouritism? “I think favoritism exists everywhere, not just in the entertainment industry. No matter what field you look at, favoritism is present. Naturally, if you know someone and recognize their talent, or feel you can help bring out their talent, you would choose them,” she said.

“Why would you go out of your way when you can work with people you're familiar with? Unless you find someone extraordinarily talented, you're likely to stick with your own circle first. So, favoritism is there in every industry, not just this one,” she added.

She also shared that there have been many situations where she has lost opportunities due to favouritism, but she feels it was all part of her growth in the industry.

“Earlier, I used to take those situations very personally, but over time, I’ve come to understand that success is a step-by-step journey. I’ve been through that process, and I’m still working on growing and improving myself. It’s not something that happens overnight; it takes time and effort to build growth and success. For me, they go hand in hand. So, it’s okay if a project didn’t work out—it just wasn’t meant for me. What is meant for you will always find its way to you, and that’s what I believe,” she ended.
