I never imagined I would be a part of the brand that is Balika Vadhu

A page from the personal diary of Vikrant Massey After completing a year and a half in Balika Vadhu, people often ask me about the future of my character after the leap. I tell them I don’t know about it either. I am in the same position like I was when I started the show – clueless! I still remember the days when I used to watch Balika Vadhu at home. I never thought I would be part of it one day. I am very passionate about acting and dancing. My day starts with these two activities. I am a major in Economics from National College, but unfortunately due to my hectic schedule I am not being able to pursue MBA which I want to at some point of time. I also want to secure my future and life. My parents are very happy about my career and always give enough space to me. Looking back, I really feel happy and proud that my name has been attached to the show and people have liked me and my character. They have welcomed me wholeheartedly. The primary motive of this show is to give a strong message to the society against child marriage and I feel happy it has been successful to a great extent. Balika Vadhu is a brand and I am proud of it. I am 23 and in no hurry to achieve something. Naseeruddin Shah is my idol and even if I achieve a part of what he has done, I will consider myself lucky. I also follow actors like Kay Kay Menon and Irrfan Khan. Very few people are aware I started my career in 2004 and it has been six years since I have been in this industry. Though I started working with Shiamak Davar first, it was Contiloe Films who gave me my television break in a show called Kahan Hu Main. I have also done shows including Dharamveer and Comedy Circus. Before moving to acting, I had done a number of dance shows as a participant and choreographer, being part of Shiamak Davar’s troupe. People often ask me why I am not participating in a dance-based reality show. My answer to them is that I am not here to prove anything I just want to enjoy work and life. I know my limitations – if I can eat only two rotis why should I look at making more? I love to work on one show at a time, and wherever I get some free time I do some episodes in Comedy Circus. I am not greedy. At the same time, I don’t have anything against my colleagues who are doing two or three shows at a time. They have their own priorities.
