MUMBAI: Ace designer Anjali Phougat, who is known in the global fashion circuit for her clothes and jewellery designs, says that Indian weddings can never be forgotten for their outfits. She adds that each and every piece has so much significance attached.
“Indian weddings are truly one-of-a-kind, celebrated for their rich colours, intricate designs, and elaborate ceremonies. What makes an Indian wedding look so unique is its deep-rooted cultural significance and the artistry that goes into every element. Each outfit, from the bride’s lehenga to the groom’s sherwani, is crafted to tell a story—often blending tradition with personal style. The combination of luxurious fabrics, hand-embroidery, and ornate jewelry makes the entire experience unforgettable, immersing guests in a celebration of love and heritage,” she says.
Talking about the current trends, she adds, “Some key trends in wedding fashion right now include a focus on pastel colours, intricate hand-embroidery, and unique silhouettes that merge traditional and modern aesthetics. Brides are choosing lightweight lehengas with floral motifs or sequined details, while grooms are experimenting with embroidered or velvet jackets. Sustainable fashion is also becoming more popular, with many opting for ethically sourced fabrics and designs they can repurpose or re-wear in the future.”
