MUMBAI : Director Ashutosh Gowariker and Composer AR Rahman have worked together for many projects and have a great working relationship. Reflecting on this, the director said that Rahman was supposed to compose the music for his 2008 release 'What’s Your Raashee?' but he couldn’t because he was getting Hollywood offers. Rahman win two Iscars for Slumdog Millionaire which was released in 2008. In an interview, Gowariker revealed that he tells Rahman how he should be thankful to Gowariker for ‘allowing’ him to pursue Hollywood offers.
When chatting with Mirchi, the director revealed, “Rahman and I had to take a gap after Jodhaa Akbar because he started getting Hollywood offers. He was offered Slumdog Millionaire. I wanted him to do What’s Your Raashee? as well, but it couldn’t happen. Even today, I sometimes tell Rahman, ‘You should thank me for the Oscars you’ve won, because I allowed you to go to Hollywood.”
Recently, when the composer spoke about working on Slumdog Millionaire, he said that he had to work in secret, because people had advised him not to. He said, "I met Danny Boyle in Mumbai, and he really wanted me to do the music for the film. I called my agent, who said, Reject it straight away! He is very complicated, works with multiple composers and might throw your music out.' But I remembered Danny's face, which was full of love and respect. I thought these two things weren't tallying!"
