MUMBAI: During the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule, there was a stampede which caused the death of a woman and her son critically. Now as per latest reports, Allu Arjun has been arrested by Hyderabad police in connection with the stampede.
The police had filed a case against the Sandhya Theatre management, along with the actor and his security team. According to an officer, the police were not informed earlier that the movie’s team would be arriving at the premiere.
TellyChakkar spoke exclusively to Pushpa 2 choreographer Urvashi Apsara after Allu Arjun's arrest, following the stampede outside a theatre leading to the death of a lady and hospitalization of her child under critical condition. She said, “This is not right as it's not at all Bunny sir (Allu Arjun)'s fault. It's completely the audience's fault. The fans in the South are crazy. We've witnessed it first hand. They're uncontrollable. What could Bunny sir have done there? Did he ask them to behave like that, to rush and create a stampede? When they become unruly that way, even the bodyguards can't control them? And at that time, obviously, the bodyguards' first priority was to protect Allu Arjun. What could Bunny sir have done to protect that lady? How is he to blame and not the audience there? In fact, he didn't even know what had happened there and then, but still came forward to compensate the family when it wasn't his fault because of what a lovely and down-to-earth person he is. It's absolutely wrong that he's been arrested for something he hasn't done and nobody is talking about how the audience behaved there. We're all worried — Sukumar sir and the entire team.”
Urvashi added, "Arresting an artist because of the overzealous nature of the fans is outrageous! Allu sir is doing what every other artist does, make movies and promote them. There's no illegal or unlawful activity being committed from his end which warrants an arrest! Fans and admirers should know where to draw the line between appreciating an actor's work and outright hero-worshipping to the extent of causing damage to their own selves! What's happened it very unfortunate and my heart goes out to the family of the deceased, but security and controlling the crowds is the direct responsibility of the organisers and the venue owners, not the artist.
I was present at the Mumbai promotions and I first-hand witnessed the crowds going berserk around him. People climbing on top of his car, pushing and groping him is just not right! I kept my safe distance because of the unruly crowd, it was truly scary. I understand being a public figure means you've got little to no privacy when in the public domain. But there should be some boundaries a civilised society should follow."
The choreographer also added, "Just because he is a big name, he's being made the scapegoat for no reason! This is absolutely absurd and unheard of and a very bad precedent is being set by the authorities."
