MUMBAI : The Lord Of The Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is going to be released tomorrow (Friday, 13th December) and after watching the movie at an early screening we have to admit that while it works well as a standalone film about King’s ancient land, sprawling battles and swordplay, it neither has the ethos nor the mythology connect the LOTR and the Peter Jackson movies are known for.

It has almost absolutely nothing to do with the original LOTR trilogy or Peter Jackson subsequent Hobbit trilogy or any of J. R. R. Tokien’s books. We understand that the makers wanted to present a new story but they could’ve easily done this by weaving the dots with what the fans are already known and accustomed to in the universe. Transformers One had done so well earlier this year as we actually knew we are getting a Transformers movie while here we are getting a swords and sandals epic and while it is decent, it has nothing to go gaga about because we have seen better swords and sandals movie in this category like Ben Hur for example.

If you are a fan of Japanese Anime, you will like this because the character designs, the way they are presented, their moves, resonates everything about anime but if you are an LOTR fan, you might be disappointed.

So because of the character designing and the parts that work, we give this movie 2.5/5 stars.
