Aditya Deshmukh on Longevity in Acting: "You Have to Do Some Self-Analysis"

MUMBAI: Aditya Deshmukh, known for his compelling roles in Ziddi Dil Maane Na, Punnar Vivah and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, is a powerhouse of talent. With over a decade of experience in the industry, he has honed the art of slipping into characters and making them his own. However, what’s fascinating is his seamless ability to transition from one role to another without being weighed down by the baggage of his previous characters. When asked about how easy or difficult it is to move from one character to another, Aditya explained, “For me, it’s not difficult to move on. You know, there is always a switch-on and switch-off mechanism. And I think that is the most important key element. One should not get stuck in their character.” Aditya credits his ability to fully immerse himself in a role while still knowing when to let go. “I can easily switch on and switch off because I completely become that character. The moment I take off the clothes of that character and put on my own clothes, I can just be Aditya Deshmukh at that particular moment. Then I become who I really am.”

He also expressed admiration for method actors, saying, “I know there are many method actors out there who work on themselves, on the same characters for years, and I really appreciate them. I have immense respect for them, and I admire their work a lot.” For Aditya, the freshness in his performance stems from the storytelling itself. “Actually, it always comes down to the freshness in the writing. I would say the credit always goes to the writers. The real hero of any movie is the writing, the storytelling.” Aditya takes an analytical approach to his work. “When I start working on a project, I read the script, ask my directors questions, and talk to the producers to understand how relatable it all is. Then I begin working on it—reading the lines, contemplating the character. I also watch films, interviews that are relatable to the character I’m playing. I try to understand the nuances and speak to the creative team.” As someone who has spent over 11 years in the industry, Deshmukh acknowledges the importance of self-analysis. “This is the kind of work we’ve chosen, and I understand how challenging it is. But you have to do some self-analysis too,” he ended.
