MUMBAI: Makar Sankranti, the Kite Festival, is celebrated with immense elation and enthusiasm in India. This festival marks the arrival of spring and is a time for people to come together, enjoy the festivities, and indulge in the tradition of kite flying. As the joyous occasion of Makar Sankranti draws near, it ushers in a time of unity, nostalgia, and hope. It is a time when families and friends reconnect, and people celebrate both the harvest and the beginning of a new season with heartfelt gratitude.

This year, as the festival of  Makar Sankranti has approached, Star Plus show artists Vijayendra Kumeria and Sonakshi Batra have shared their fond memories and unique experiences of flying kites.

Actor Vijayendra Kumeria, aka Dev from the Star Plus show Deewaniyat, shares, "Makar Sankranti is deeply significant as it represents hope, joy, fresh starts, and change. This year, I’ll be shooting on set, so I will miss spending time with my friends, but I’ll definitely try to fly kites on the sets. I have some fond memories of my childhood, where I spent entire days flying kites with my friends. The excitement of Uttrayan was always contagious, and I miss those days. I love kite flying, and of course, enjoying the traditional foods associated with the festival brings back so many happy memories. Happy Makar Sankranti"

Sonakshi Batra, aka Meghla from the Star Plus show Iss Ishq Ka Rabb Rakha, shares, "India has always been a society focused on farming. Makar Sankranti is a harvest celebration observed in various ways and with different names across India. It's a festival where we acknowledge all those who assist in making the harvest, are grateful for the food we consume, and worship the sun. In Delhi, during the Makar Sankranti festival, we would hear the excited shouts of "Kai Poe Che" while we were at home, as the rooftops were filled with children flying kites. I thoroughly enjoyed the sight of the skies covered with colorful kites and people celebrating. On Makar Sankranti, my father, sister, and I would also fly kites, while my mother would typically prepare khichdi, and we would have jaggery or panjiri for a dessert. Simple celebrations. I enjoy relishing til guds as much as I enjoy watching people fly kites and celebrate their victories. Happy Makar Sankranti"
