MUMBAI: Poonam Sirnaik, who plays Parmeshwari Chotwani (Nani) in Jamai No. 1, shares her thoughts on Women's Day, reflecting on empowerment, equality, and her journey as an actor.

Wishing everyone on this special occasion, she said, “First of all, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Women’s Day!”

Talking about the influence of her late mother, Poonam shared, “My mother was my biggest inspiration. She is no longer with me, but I have seen and learned from her how she handled every situation with strength and grace.”

While acknowledging progress in gender equality, she pointed out that there is still room for improvement. “Yes, change has begun, but there is still a long way to go. However, one thing is clear—today’s women are no less than anyone.”

As an actor, Poonam has played a variety of roles, and while she may not completely relate to each one, she finds connections in every character. “I may not fully resonate with every role I play, but each character has certain qualities that I can relate to. Apart from that, adaptability is key because, as an actor, I have to shape my performance according to the character's requirements to make the story engaging.”

Addressing the ongoing issue of pay disparity, she remarked, “Yes, it still exists—not just in the entertainment industry but everywhere. However, I believe this gap will close soon, and we all hope and pray for that day to come.”

On the growing influence of social media personalities, Poonam admitted, “I don’t have much insight into that space, so I can’t comment much on it.”

With her strong perspective on women's empowerment and equality, Poonam Sirnaik continues to inspire both on and off-screen.
