MUMBAI: The new gen content on the OTT platforms have given rise to a new perspective on viewership and as a result, it is now a realized truth that Content is the king.

Now, Amazon Prime has been coming up with some really good shows and one of them was Ziddi Girls, released in February this year. The series runs around five first-year students at Delhi's prestigious Matilda House College: Trisha, Vandana, Tabby, Devika, and Wallika. The series highlights every character’s journey of self-discovery, navigating personal ambitions, societal expectations, and the complexities of young adulthood. The plot intensifies when a sex education film screening organized by the students is misrepresented as pornography, leading to public outrage.

Now, in an exclusive interview with Tellychakkar, actor Keshav Mehta opened up about the show, his role and much more.

Tell us about the show and your initial reaction when you were approached for it?

A college drama where I get to play a character named Arjun, the same name as my dad, and it's being filmed at my mom’s college. What could be better than making both my parents proud at the same time?

OTT has become a platform for starkids to make their debut. Do you think theaters have lost their charm?

Even though OTT has opened doors for so many actors and brought a variety of characters to life, I still believe theatre will never lose its charm—because, after all, it's the big screen we’re talking about. The kid in me still cherishes those weekend movie outings with my parents, and one day, I hope to see myself up there too.

Tell us about some fun moments from the time you were shooting for Ziddi Girls?

From my first meeting with the directors—where I stupidly cracked the joke, "Meri GF ke saath involve hona was not funny, Parth"—to the grand reading sessions and the warmest hugs from Shonali Bose every time we met, this journey will always feel magical. The production team, the entire cast, and the crew became family in no time. Always a ziddi.

"Ziddi Girls" explores themes of friendship, free speech, and the challenges faced by young women in contemporary society, offering a glossy and pacy drama about friendship and free speech. The series is created by Ishita Pritish Nandy and Rangita Pritish Nandy while it is directed by Shonali Bose.
