MUMBAI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended a decade-long drought at the Wankhede Stadium by clinching a thrilling win against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday night. After a rollercoaster of a contest, it was RCB’s bowlers who held their nerve in the death overs, securing a crucial two points and boosting the team's position to third on the IPL 2025 points table, with three victories from four games. In contrast, Mumbai continued their disappointing run, managing just one win in five outings to remain stuck at eighth.

The tension-filled clash saw emotions run high as RCB’s former captain Virat Kohli let out a roar of celebration after the dismissal of Naman Dhir on the fifth ball of the final over. Krunal Pandya, once a key part of MI, delivered a match-winning last over for RCB, conceding just a few runs and claiming three wickets—including two off the first two deliveries—turning the match decisively in Bengaluru’s favour.

Kohli, showing glimpses of his vintage form, played a pivotal role with the bat. His commanding 67 off 42 deliveries, including eight boundaries and two sixes, helped RCB post a formidable total. He didn’t shy away from taking on Jasprit Bumrah either, marking his intent with aggressive stroke play. For Mumbai, captain Hardik Pandya led a valiant counterattack, hammering 42 runs off just 15 balls at a blistering strike rate of 280. However, his dismissal in the penultimate over proved to be a turning point.

Krunal Pandya’s final over heroics saw him finish with figures of 4 for 45, showcasing composure under pressure and sealing RCB’s third win in four games.

Earlier in the evening, Rohit Sharma’s batting woes continued as he was dismissed for 17 in just the second over, adding to MI's top-order troubles. Tilak Varma offered some resistance with a fluent 56 and combined with Hardik for an 89-run stand that momentarily tilted the game towards the home side. But their dismissals in quick succession—Varma falling to Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik to Josh Hazlewood—derailed the chase.

In the end, RCB’s all-round performance and calmness under pressure proved decisive, as they walked away from Wankhede with a long-awaited and much-celebrated win.
