Head Coach Stephen Fleming confirmed the news during a press interaction on Thursday, a day ahead of CSK’s home game against Kolkata Knight Riders. “Ruturaj is out of the season due to a fractured elbow. Dhoni will resume captaincy,” said Fleming. He also mentioned that while replacement options are being considered, no final decision has been made.

Dhoni, who has led CSK in a record 235 matches and secured five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023), is no stranger to leading under pressure. After a brief captaincy handover to Ravindra Jadeja in 2022 and Gaikwad in 2024, Dhoni once again steps in to stabilize the side. Currently, CSK find themselves second-last on the points table, with only one win in five matches and having recently endured their biggest-ever home defeat in IPL history at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
