MUMBAI: Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore has candidly shared her thoughts on her grandson Ibrahim Ali Khan’s much-anticipated Bollywood debut in Naadaniyaan, which premiered on Netflix earlier this year.
Starring alongside Khushi Kapoor, the romantic comedy aimed to usher in a new wave of youthful charm and nostalgia but failed to strike a chord with audiences.
While Ibrahim was lauded for his dashing appearance, he faced considerable criticism for his acting performance. Social media was abuzz with harsh commentary, as viewers expressed disappointment in both the film’s narrative and its lead performances.

Expectations had been high, with many hoping the young actor would channel the charm and flair of his father, Saif Ali Khan, to revive the classic rom-com genre. Unfortunately, Naadaniyaan struggled to make an impact.
The film was widely panned for its stilted dialogue and lacklustre execution, and now, Sharmila Tagore has broken her silence on the matter. Speaking in a recent interview, the iconic actress offered a refreshingly honest take on the film and her grandson’s debut.
“Sara and Ibrahim are doing a wonderful job,” she remarked. “Ibrahim’s film was not good, but he still looks very handsome. He has tried his best. These things shouldn’t really be said in front of everyone, but honestly, the picture isn’t great. Ultimately, the picture has to be good.”
Her forthright comments reflect the sentiments shared by many within the industry and audiences alike that while star power and good looks may generate buzz, it is ultimately the strength of the content that carries a film.
Tagore also took a moment to praise her granddaughter, Sara Ali Khan, highlighting her dedication and talent. “Sara is really a good actress and works with a lot of hard work and dedication,” she said.
Despite the underwhelming start for Ibrahim, the support from his celebrated grandmother and the legacy of his film family may yet pave the way for future opportunities. In movie business, one film rarely defines a career and fans will be watching keenly to see what Ibrahim takes on next.
