MUMBAI: Cricket lovers witnessed a heartwarming and delightful moment ahead of the IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday. Indian cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar, fondly known as “The Little Master,” became the center of attention thanks to his playful encounter with Champak—the now-famous robot dog that has become a fan favorite this season.

The 75-year-old legend was seen in high spirits as he engaged with Champak prior to the game, even mimicking running and playful gestures. Impressively, the robotic canine responded by mimicking Gavaskar’s moves, leading to a wholesome moment that captured the hearts of fans. The official IPL account posted a clip of the interaction, and it quickly gained traction across social media platforms.

The video’s viral spread sparked an outpouring of reactions from fans, many admiring Gavaskar’s enthusiasm and youthful energy. One user commented, “Gavaskar’s playful moment with an IPL pet adds charm to cricket vibes.” Another added, “Beautiful Moments in IPL 2025.”

One fan jokingly wrote, “75 years old with the energy of a 25 year old, this man has failed Kohli.” Another joined in with, “Moj masti nhi rukni chaiye (The fun shouldn’t stop).”

Champak, who made its first appearance earlier in the season, is far more than a gimmick. The quadruped robot can walk, jump, rotate, and even rise onto its hind legs. Outfitted with a camera, it provides exclusive broadcast footage from the ground and dugout areas. The robotic assistant has also been entrusted with responsibilities like bringing out the toss coin and delivering towels and refreshments to umpires mid-game.

Before Gavaskar, other cricket stars like MS Dhoni and Axar Patel have interacted with Champak. More recently, a video of Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya sharing a light moment with the robot dog, accompanied by MI owner Akash Ambani, also went viral.
