Megha, the nation is reeling from yet another horrific terror attack. Emotions are running high, and many are demanding military retaliation. What’s your stance is war truly the answer?
It’s heart-breaking I completely condemn the brutality of such an act. Innocent lives being lost in this manner is utterly unacceptable. I understand the anger, I feel it too. But to be very honest, I don’t believe war is the solution.
Violence only begets more violence. That said, I strongly believe that concrete action must be taken. The perpetrators of terror cannot go unpunished. Whatever steps our country decides to take – so long as they target the actual source of terror I believe it is justified. The key is ensuring that no more innocent lives are caught in the crossfire.
In times like these, there’s often a push to ban cross-border cultural and sporting exchanges. Do you think that’s a fair response?
It's a very tricky space. On one hand, art and sport are universal languages; they bring people together. And normally, I would say these things should remain separate from politics. But after what’s happened, I do feel we need to send a strong message.
If that means suspending cultural ties or banning films from across the border, then so be it. It’s not about punishing artists, but about drawing a firm line. We, as a nation, cannot continue to be taken lightly. Sometimes, symbolic steps like these show that we’re serious and that there are consequences.
Megha Chakraborty continues to be a voice of reason and compassion in turbulent times. Balancing sensitivity with strength, she exemplifies the responsibility public figures carry in shaping thoughtful discourse.
