Ban on Pakistani dramas on YouTube? Fret not; here are five great alternatives for you

Sargun

MUMBAI: After the Pahalgam attack on April 22, where 26 tourists were killed while several were left injured, India took some grave decisions; one of them was banning Pakistani drama channels on YouTube. Pakistani dramas have been the audience’s favorite for their simple yet impactful storytelling, along with the grace and elegance with which each character was played. The decision has, of course, left the viewers disappointed, who relied on the Pak-dramas for their daily dose of storytelling, but there is still so much left that the internet has to offer in terms of no-nonsense dramas and strong storytelling, waiting for you to explore.

Here are five excellent content options that can help fill the void left by Pakistani dramas:

* Dreamiyata Dramaa’s web shows on their official YouTube channel: A rising alternative to the Pak-dramas, Sargun Mehta and Ravie Dubey’s Dreamiyata Dramaa on its launch promised the audience a new content experience, and they have successfully delivered it with their powerful shows like Dil Ko Rafu Karr Lei and Lovely Lolla. Much like the Pak-dramas and K-dramas, the episodes of these shows are short yet engaging, making them the ideal choice for viewers who want pure entertainment after a long day. The stories are interesting, the characters are relatable, and their focus on family values and growing together as a unit is what makes them the ideal choice for the Indian audience. The company is all set to launch a couple more shows like Haale Dil, Tujhse Haii Aashiqui, among others. Where to watch:

* Turkish dramas: Turkish dramas have taken over the market in the last few years. While they are on similar lines as far as storytelling is concerned, it wouldn’t be wrong to say they are much bolder and intense. Apart from the picturesque views, what’s more interesting is that their focus is on family dynamics and relationship values, two elements that resonate well with the Indian audience. Shows like Ertugrul Ghazi, Kara Sevda, and Sen Çal Kapımı have made a huge fan base on YouTube and are a must-watch. Where to watch: Netflix, official channels on YouTube, MX Player.

* Korean dramas: Korean dramas, or K-Dramas, have made it deep into the Indian audience’s watchlist, and how. It wouldn’t be wrong to say they can become your comfort shows because of their original stories, heartwarming romance, and cinematic aesthetics. From feel-good series like Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Goblin, Business Proposal, and Marry My Husband to even intense thrillers like Squid Game, The Guest, and A Bloody Lucky Day, to name some, Korean dramas have something to offer for everyone. They are your perfect date night watch to even early morning couch binge. Where to watch: Netflix, Prime Video.

* TVF (The Viral Fever): TVF has set the standards for subtle yet relatable storytelling. Be it the emotional depth of the characters or humorous and light-hearted content, they create slice-of-life stories filled with everyday struggle, inspiration, and interpersonal relationships. Shows like Aspirants, Kota Factory, Gullak, and Panchayat, among others, are worth watching. Where to watch: YouTube, TVFPlay, Amazon miniTV

* FilterCopy: If you are a fan of short yet thought-provoking videos, FilterCopy should be your destination. They have videos on various issues and on different age groups, showcasing not just daily struggles but also the most interesting conversations that happen within ourselves. They are full of humor, relatable, and very engaging. More importantly, since many of the videos are short, you can watch them on the go without getting too attached and spending a lot of time on them. Where to watch:

While the ban on Pakistani dramas on YouTube might seem like a setback, it has, in a way, opened up a new window of opportunity for audiences to explore different cultures and storytelling formats. From Turkish emotional sagas to relatable Indian web series and fresh content from rising platforms like Dreamiyata Dramaa, there’s something for everyone. So continue your content journey with our recommendations.
