MUMBAI: Urmila Sharma, who is seen in Binaiferr and Sanjay Kohli’s Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, which is produced under their banner Edit II, has always approached her craft with sincerity, consistency, and a deep understanding of the audience-actor connection, as she understands the demanding nature of the medium.
“As a daily soap actor, connecting with the audience daily is both rewarding and demanding. It requires consistency in performance and emotional depth,” she said.
Having portrayed a wide range of characters over the years, she mentioned that her authentic portrayal comes from drawing inspiration from within. She said, “I believe it's essential to tap into personal experiences and empathy to bring authenticity to the role.” But when asked about the audience imitating the characters in their own lives, she finds it flattering but offers some advice. She said, “It's also important to maintain a distinction between the character and real life.”
And what keeps Urmila grounded is the unwavering support of her family, especially her parents. She said, “Family feedback, especially parents', is crucial. Their appreciation and support motivate me to improve and grow as an actor.”
Being in the public eye comes with its own consequences, and social media makes it difficult to navigate between appreciation, criticism, and trolling. “Dealing with social media trolling involves focusing on positive feedback, ignoring negativity, and sometimes taking breaks from social media. Constructive criticism can be helpful, but unwarranted negativity is best ignored,” Urmila concluded.
