MUMBAI: Aamir Khan, fondly known as Hindi movie’s ‘Mr Perfectionist', has long earned a reputation for his powerful performances and commitment to meaningful cinema. From timeless gems like Lagaan and Taare Zameen Par to socially resonant blockbusters such as PK and Dangal, Aamir has consistently pushed the boundaries of storytelling.

His latest film, Sitaare Zameen Par, continues this legacy and has struck a chord with audiences, receiving a resoundingly positive response at the box office.

In a candid recent interview, Aamir delved into a lesser-known chapter of his career — his exit from Yash Chopra’s 1993 psychological thriller Darr.

The film, which ultimately starred Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol, marked a turning point in SRK’s career. However, Aamir revealed that he hadn’t turned down the film, but was, in fact, removed from it.

"I didn’t reject Darr," Aamir clarified. "I was removed from the project by Yash ji because I had requested a joint narration with the entire cast. I believe when there are two leading actors involved, it’s important for everyone to hear the full narrative together — it helps in understanding the story and each other’s roles. But Yash ji preferred a different approach, and we parted ways amicably."

Though Aamir’s journey with Darr ended before it began, fate had different plans. The role eventually went to Shah Rukh Khan, who turned the character of the obsessive lover into an unforgettable screen presence.

Interestingly, it was one of those rare instances where audiences rooted for the antagonist over the hero a testament to both the writing and SRK’s compelling portrayal.

In hindsight, while Darr wasn’t in Aamir Khan’s stars, he continues to carve out his own distinctive legacy — one of substance, selectiveness, and cinematic brilliance.
