I have found my true calling: Creative Head Pushpa Porwal

Creative Head Pushpa Porwal
The very pretty and happy-go-lucky woman Pushpa Porwal is always her bubbly self in spite of working round the clock as a Creative Head of Colors’ Mrs Pammi Pyarelal (Playtime Creations). This lady, who started off as an anchor, later became an RJ to only find her true calling in the TV industry. We at Tellychakkar.com spoke to her about her journey and future plans. Read on… Tell us a bit about your journey? After completing my course in BMM and getting a diploma in TV anchoring, I moved to Hyderabad from Delhi where I worked with ETV as a news anchor. After some time, I moved back to Delhi and joined Aaj Tak. After a while the realization came onto me that I cannot put a lot of make-up and be in front of the camera; so I got into RJing. I was an RJ with Radio Mirchi. After working as an RJ for one and a half years, I came down to Mumbai and joined the TV industry. How did you bag your first TV show? A friend of mine knew a few people in Rashmi Sharma Productions and through his influence I joined there as an associate creative head (ACH) for shows such as Saathiya and Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein. Later Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon happened and this was the first show that I worked on from the very beginning. After being a part of a romantic story, I got into the saas bahu drama with Kairi. Soon after that I joined Hongey Juda Na Hum and currently, I am a part of Mrs Pammi Pyarelal as a creative head (CH). Did you always want to be a part of the entertainment industry? Yes, very much. While I was in college I loved giving speeches; in fact I had also won a lot of debates and extempore competitions. So, yes I can say that there was this inclination towards the entertainment industry but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be. What about the present? Now, I have found my true calling. I am happy where I am as I always loved watch television. As a matter of fact, as a kid, I used to wonder why my favourite television shows run for just 30 minutes instead of an hour. But today I know what all goes into making a 30 minute show especially when it airs from Monday to Saturday. How easy or difficult is it to be a creative person on a show? It’s not easy at all. As a creative, one is basically responsible for all that happens on the sets at the creative level. Hence, you get to do something new every day. Our work can never get monotonous. But, at the same time there is too much of pressure from all sides and if anything goes wrong, the blame comes straight on you. There is no space to breathe; but even in this compressed time that we have, we manage to do some creative work. You’ve worked on shows of different genres. Why didn’t you opt to work on one particular genre? When I did a love story in Iss Pyaar Ko…, I simply loved it and could have opted for another love story instead of getting onto a saas bahu drama in Kairi, but I wanted to explore all the genres on television and want to understand how different is one from the other. That is one of the major reasons why I did different kinds of shows. Even taking up a comedy show (Mrs Pammi Pyarelal) was a huge challenge for me as I have always been interested in serious topics. But then I wanted to take up the challenge and am glad I did. I simply enjoy working on this show. What’s next for you? Let me enjoy the present. I am extremely happy here and I don’t want to plan or think about the future yet. Is your family happy with your journey? My family is full of doctors and engineers. In fact, my dad is a pharmacist and my mom is a homeopathic doctor, but they have always let me do what I’ve wanted to and are proud to see me where I am.
