Poonam Dhillon connecting to her Punjabi roots

Poonam Dhillon will soon be seen in a Punjabi serial. She is playing the role of Kanwaljit Singh’s love interest in the show. It is going to be telecast on a new Punjabi channel to be launched in July. The show is directed and produced by Sidharth Naagar. She wanted to do something in Punjabi since a long time. She recalls, “Many Punjabis used to suggest to me to do a film or serial in Punjabi language. They wanted to see me in Punjabi serials. Even I was keen on it. I have shot a few episodes for the serial and it was amazing shooting for it. There was a comfort of language. It was like connecting to my Punjabi roots.” It is odd that in spite of being approached for popular Hindi television serials, she opted for a Punjabi one. She feels that being a Punjabi, it is her obligation to contribute towards Punjabi serials as that would make Punjabis happy. The other reason for her to stay away from Hindi serials is that she does not want to tire herself with the hectic schedules of Hindi serials as she has to allot time for her family. “It used to get extremely difficult for me to give time to my family while shooting for Kitty Party. Hence, I decided to avoid daily soaps. Further, I rejected a few offers as my son was preparing for his board exams this year and I wanted to be by his side,” she said. Incidentally, Poonam was approached for Big Boss as well. The show’s name has not been decided. Poonam is happy about the show and her role. She plays the role of a girl who meets Kanwaljith, separates from him and then meets him again. “It is a nice and emotional story. I am having a good time working with Sidharth. He is a relaxed person and creates a calm atmosphere to work,” adds Poonam. Apart from doing this serial, Poonam is also shooting for a film tentatively named Sab Khairiyat Hai, which is a thriller. Television plays an important role in solving the mystery in this movie. It is directed by Vikram Kumar, an assistant of Priya Darshan and produced by Adlabs. It is Vikram’s debut film. R. Madhavan and Neetu Chandra are playing lead roles in the film. Poonam is playing the role of Madhavan’s mother. While lauding Poonam’s decision, all we have to say her that she shouldn’t engross herself in her Punjabi connections to such an extent that people don’t get to see her on Hindi channels at all.
