When Colors' Raj Nayak agreed with Tellychakkar that 24 should have been a daily

Anil Kapoor and Raj Nayak (CEO, Colors)
There was a lot of buzz pertaining to Colors’ ambitions show 24 helmed by Anil Kapoor. There’s still a buzz, thanks to some effective work by the channel’s marketing team and not to mention Anil’s clout and goodness that often transpire into Bolly celebs tweeting all good words about the series. On the day when the show went on air, it was trending on Twitter. But all the buzz and hoopla did not manage to achieve, which everyone in TV business intends to achieve, a super duper TVT figure. 24 fell flat in terms of numbers and has not managed to recover till date. The show is indeed good and fresh, but in a scenario when everything is governed by TVTs, it must have been a little upsetting for the makers and the channel to swallow the bitter ratings pill. The other day the PRs from Colors invited us for the game launch of 24. Very good, we obliged but before heading for the event, the editorial team started discussing the causes which could have led to the low numbers. First of all, we thought, the show could be way ahead of time and the masses forgot to fasten the seatbelt and get in terms with a roller coaster of a ride called 24. Secondly, may be many did not watch on television, but enjoyed the show on Youtube and other digital platforms. However, one of our reporters felt that the show has not been working because it’s not a daily and people lose interest waiting for the next episode to air. Suspense kept for too long becomes stale. Armed with this thought we reached the game launch venue and there we met Colors Channel Head, Raj Nayak. There we shared our opinion with Nayak and asked if he thinks that 24 would have done better had it aired every day? And to our surprise, he agreed with us. Said Nayak: “You’ve hit the nail bang on but then we have the problem of plenty. All our shows on weekdays are doing extremely well. In fact, we chopped Kapil’s (Comedy Nights With Kapil) show by a day and we’ve got enough galis for us to last a lifetime.” And before taking a leave he said with a smile, “You guys should join our programming team.” Ahem ahem…thanks a lot Mr Nayak, but we are better off as journalists.
