In spite of him being an extremely busy actor these days, Ashiesh Roy, who plays the popular Bengali Babu Chatur Ganguly in Eagle Films’ sitcom Jeannie Aur Juju, has agreed to appear in Deepti Bhatnagar’s new show Jo Biwi Se Kare Pyaar for SAB TV at the insistence of his good friend Shweta Gulati.
When we got in touch with Ashiesh regarding this, he confirmed the news saying, “As I simply didn’t have dates to spare, I had already said ‘no’ when the production house approached me earlier this month.”
Then what made him change his mind? “It is Shweta Gulati. She just picked up the phone and shouted at me, threw a tantrum, twisted my arm and plain bullied me into saying ‘yes’,” exclaimed Roy breaking into peals of laughter.
So, what is this special power that Shweta holds over him? “Simple! We are friends and friends don’t say ‘no’ to each other. I remember last year, I was to perform for a play for the cadets of the National Defence Academy and our female lead got pregnant. And when I asked Shweta to fill in, she not only prepared the part in a mere flat 48 hours but also delivered a fantastic performance before 2000 cadets and officers. And now, when she needed me for her new show, how could I refuse her.”
In Jo Biwi Se Kare Pyaar, Ashiesh plays an underworld don on the run, whom Shweta’s character Suhani mistakenly thinks him to be her sister-in-law’s uncle.
In an industry where relationships are based more on needs than actual fondness, here’s hoping this beautiful friendship lasts a long, long time.
