Rahul Rawail, the filmmaker who gifted Hindi cinema precious actors as Sunny Deol (Betaab), Kajol(Bekhudi), Aishwarya Rai (Aur Pyar Ho Gaya) and Amrita Singh (Betaab), is all set to unleash more fresh talent in a new film that he says he is starting in April 2014.
Interestingly Rawail who seemed to have thrown in his towel after directing the ill-received risqué comedy Buddha Mar Gaya in 2007, has named his new love story after his 1981 blockbuster Love Story which launched the careers of Rajendra Kumar’s son Kumar Gaurav and Vijayta Pandit.
Halfway through that 1981 film Rawail had a fall-out with producer Rajendra Kumar and Rawail’s name did not appear in the credits of Love Story.
Now is his chance to get his name as director in Love Story.
Says Rahul, “I am directing another film called Love Story. It bears no resemblance to the old film of that title.”
Rahul describes the new Love Story as, “a young contemporary love story with two new boys and two new girls in the lead.”
So far only one of the female leads has been finalized. “We hope to finalize the other three actors soon. I’ve also finalized Binod Pradhan to do the cinematography.”
The music has always been important in Rahul Rawail’s films. So it would be this time too. “As long as R D Burman was there, he did my music. But now I don’t know who will fit the bill,” rues Rawail.
The old Love Story had R D Burman’s memorable melodies like Teri yaad aa rahi hai and Dekha maine dekha hai ek sapna.
“I don’t know if I can create the same magic. But I’ll try my best,” promises the 63-year old director who once was obese but has now lost 40kgs.
“I feel like a new person. Hopefully Love Story would be a new beginning for me,” says Rahul.
