Shiv Darshan jams for video with Mumzy Stranger, Tasha Tah
British-Asian musicians’ infinite influx into Bollywood continues. After bands like RDB and Rishi Rich, it’s the British Bangladeshi musician Mumzy Stranger and the British Punjabi floor-burner Tasha Tah’s turn to hit Bollywood. On Thursday night Mumzy Stranger (real name Muhammad Mumith Ahmed, he topped the British Asian charts with the songs ‘One More Dance’ and ‘Fly With me’) and Tasha Tah (considered the hottest Punjabi babe in Britain) got together to shoot a music video for producer Suneel Darshan’s Karle Pyar Karle. The Asian Britishers were flown into Mumbai to sing and dance with Suneel’s son Shiv Darshan who makes his debut in Karle Pyar Karle. The ‘import’ apparently cost Suneel Darshan a whopping 1.25 crore rupees. Laughs the doting father, “Excitement on screen doesn’t come cheap these days. The young Indian audience has seen it all. It gets bored easily. We have to provide them with new entertainment every week. Mumzy Stranger and Tasha Tah are among Britain’s most vibrant young musicians today. My son introduced me to them. And we decided we must have them for our film.” The promotional video was shot non-stop for 14 hours on Thursday night. While the two imports were in their element debutant Shiv Darshan and his co-star Harleen pitched in their dance moves. A member of Darshans’ team who was present at the shooting says the two Brit-Asians were prepared to burn up the dance floor all on their own. “These British Asian musicians feel Bollywood can’t keep pace with them. I think Mumzy Stranger and Tasha Tah were surprised by Shiv and Harleen’s familiarity with global music, Shiv even performed an impromptu rap segment for the music video.” Shiv Darshan says he’s pretty zapped by his night-long song-and-dance binge. “Thursday night was the most memorable night of my life. It was... wild! Mumzy and Tasha were unlike anything I have seen or heard. Their track ‘Qurban’ for our film was shot at an interrupted 14-hour session on Thursday night. I didn’t only dance I also rapped for the video.” Shiv has come away from the experience a better dancer and entertainer. ‘The 14 hours with Mumzy Stranger and Tasha Tah have been fantabulous!! There was a lot of healthy exchange of ideas, sharing and learning. I feel our collaboration was a blockbuster,” ends Shiv.
