People actually liked my writing and direction more than my acting - Akhlaque Khan on his debut play performance

Akhlaque Khan
Akhlaque Khan, who ventured into theatre not just as an actor but also as a writer and director with his debut play Gulel Banaunga Chidiya Marunga, is a satisfied man having received positive responses with its very first show from the audience. Talking to Tellychakkar.com, the young and charming Akhlaque shared, “I was indeed very nervous before I walked up on stage and when I saw the live audience before me, there definitely was a bit of tension. But when the play got going, nothing mattered. All that I could think of was to give out a great performance.” So how was the response from the audience, we asked. “Well it was very positive. We did two shows in a day and both went houseful. Everyone came backstage and congratulated me and they had a lot of good things to say about the play. I also made sure to call everyone and get their suggestions to improve our performances. All of them have been very supportive,” he answered. Apart from performing, he also directed and wrote the play. What was the kind of response did he get on that? “You won’t believe that people actually liked my writing and direction more than my acting. They loved the puns and comic dialogues and so also did they like all the other characters. Since it was my debut, they all felt that I did a decent job for the first time,” he informed. Akhlaque’s parents from Dhanbad, who are currently staying with him, were also proud to see their son on stage. “I remember the time when I was going towards my parents soon after the show, people standing on the way started congratulating me. This made them very happy indeed and when I saw the sparkle in their eyes, I was a joyous man,” he observed. Talking of the number of goof ups the team made on stage, a smiling Akhlaque said, “There indeed were a few but then I am sure the audience must not have managed to catch those.” We wondered how Akhlaque and his team managed to do two back to back shows in one evening. “Well the amount of energy that we all were exuberating at that moment, I am sure we could have managed to stage two more shows (smiles). Also since we are all jawan and full of josh, it wasn’t a difficult task at all." "Being on stage is a very different high and this was one night we all had been looking forward to. We have our next show on 9 March and hopefully this time we will do a better job having taken into consideration all the suggestions that came across,” Akhlaque maintained. We wish Akhlaque and his team great luck for their next show.
