VOI contestants meet Lata Mangeshkar

For any singer in India there can be no greater moment of pride, no greater achievement than getting a chance to meet the nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar. Five young and lucky contestants of Star Voice of India experienced what it's like to meet the queen herself. Ishmeet Singh, Irfan, Abhilasha, Harshit and Sumitra were the lucky ones that paid visit to Ms. Mangeshkar's home. Barely few days ago, the legend had spoken against reality shows as she felt that the best ones don't often win. So, it was surprising to see her entertain these children.

Ishmeet Singh, Irfan and Abhilasha share their experience with us. Ishmeet: I was too tensed to say anything. In fact, I couldn't hide my emotions the moment I saw her. I just didn't know what to sing. Finally, I sang title track from the film Kal Ho Na Ho for her. There's no way that you can give your best in front of the Goddess herself. Lataji is well within her rights to criticise the reality show, but I have a different opinion. After all, there're two sides to a coin. Judges can indulge into favoritism. Voice of the people is the voice of God. Abhilasha: It was a dream comes true for me. She said that you are a good singer but you will only get better once you start singing on new compositions. I sang Tu Mere Chand Main Teri Chandni. Lataji didn't criticise the reality shows she was only against the system of sms voting. Irfan: Before leaving for her place, I was all excited and literally dying to meet her. However, the moment I reached her door step, my voice simply choked. I couldn't utter a single word in front of her. However, she comforted me and asked me to step inside. Despite being a legend, she leads a very simple life. She told me that I'm singing well but she also cautioned that I need to practice regularly. I sang the song Luppa Chupi from the film Rang De Basanti. I'm no one to comment on her criticism of reality shows. After all, she's the greatest. So, whatever she says there's merit to it.
