I was desperate to play my age

A page from the personal diary of Prachi Desai Though I have just crossed my teens, most of the roles I have played till now are of mature, married women. While I am not regretting the fact because everything I am today is because of these roles, I do sometimes feel like playing younger roles! A character where I can be my age, do things that a typical teenager does and dress in all the fashionable young clothes. Be it Kasamh Se or Rock On, I have always been seen in mature dresses like a saree or a salwar suit. In fact, I was so keen on playing my age in a movie, when Life Partner was first offered to me, I asked the producers whether I would be playing a married woman’s role. When they said Yes, I was a bit sad but then they explained that this role was different and I could play and look my age. It was definitely one of the reasons I said yes to the film. Life Partner is the first movie where I have played my age and have worn all the dresses that I wanted to. In fact, in the movie you will see me in a completely different look. Thankfully viewers are liking my new look in the movie and I have been getting a lot of congratulatory messages. A lot of people are even asking me about who designed my new look and how it was done. The answer to this question is very simple. I designed my new look myself and the principle I followed was very straightforward. I just dressed the way I would normally do as a young girl. I wore capris, skirts and swanky tops, and did my make- up the way any 20-year-old girl would do normally. So the Prachi Desai you see in Life Partner looks like the real life Prachi! In our industry, how you look is very important and I have no issues in admitting that I do spend a lot of time and effort in ensuring that I look good. When I started working on my new look, I was a bit apprehensive. Because all my fans and viewers were used to seeing Bani of Kasamh Se and not the 20-year-old Prachi Desai. But to my relief, they like me in this avatar as well.
