Filmmaker Hansal Mehta lost his mother Mrs Kishori Mehta on Friday 18 January (2013) after a brief illness, leaving the Mehta family, which had been assured that they would bring their beloved matriarch home in two weeks, stunned. Hansal, who has devoted his film career to directing themes of social injustice, is now poised for a long battle with a luxury hospital in Pune where the director’s mother allegedly died of gross medical negligence.

Showing his acting prowess with his portrayal of an aged criminal in Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur 2, Tigmanshu Dhulia seems to have taken his new-found profession quite seriously. The director of <em>Paan Singh Tomar</em>, has been signed on to play an important character in Hansal Mehta’s new film <em>Shahid</em>. Confirms Dhulia, “Just like Anurag, Hansal is also a friend of mine. And when he offered me the role, I could not say no to him.” In the film, Dhulia will play a lawyer and mentor to Rajkumar Yadav’s character.
